The Academic Senate at Santa Rosa Junior College is the official faculty body responsible for representing the academic and professional interests of the faculty within the participatory governance structure of the Sonoma County Junior College District. In accordance with Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations (§53200–53204), the Senate is empowered to make recommendations to the college administration and Board of Trustees on “10+1” matters, including curriculum, degree requirements, grading policies, faculty roles in accreditation, and other academic and professional issues. 

Academic Senates ensure faculty expertise informs institutional decision-making, particularly in areas affecting instruction and student success, and operates transparently under the Ralph M. Brown Act governing open meetings. Through collaboration with district leadership, administrators, classified professionals, and students, the Senate helps develop policies, review programs, and shape educational planning, The Academic Senate advocates for students and faculty while upholding the integrity and excellence of the college’s academic mission for the community it serves.
